‘Sheep Watching’

Pastel Artists New Zealand “Open Subject” Pastel Challenge #55 2021

Judge: Julie Freeman - NZ

Judge comments: “I love this portrait of Mother and child, and as a parent we can relate to these special moments. The limited palette of soft warm colours is sensitive to the subjects, the background harmonious, and almost an extension of the figures. Delicate and well rendered, the artist has a knowledge of form, values and colour. The touch of cool green/grey in the child's clothing is repeated as a hint in the background, skin and shadow areas, which brings a cohesiveness too. The title, implied lines of vision and closeness of the subjects tell the story, a shared moment between a Mother and child. Beautifully done Congratulations”
