About me
I am an award-winning portrait artist based on the North Shore of Auckland. I am self taught, (I have been told that I was drawing since I could hold a pencil), and have always been fascinated by people, figures and especially faces and hands. I love to show a person’s individual character and expression through a painting. I love working with shadows and light, and interesting compositions.
Initially I started with graphite sketches, then experimented with acrylic and then progressed on to oil paintings. A few years ago I discovered watercolour, and had some fun experimenting with the effects and bright colours that can be achieved with that medium. Most recently, I have found pastels - my favourite medium to date. I love the rich, smooth effect which is perfect for portraying skin tones.
I recently had the great honour of winning my first International Award, as a Merit Award in the Pure Colour Online Juried Exhibition of the Pastel Society of North Carolina. I have since won a 2nd place award in the Pastel Society of Australia’s 2021 Annual Exhibition.
In July 2021, it was a privilege to be elected a Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America.
